After a long hike, we stumbled on a familiar family restaurant for lunch, Denny’s.
Missing from the menu were the Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches and greasy spoon faire we are used to. Instead, there were lunch sets with soup and salad.
The kid’s menu was Pokemon themed
A beautiful view of Kyoto
This temple is built on hill with huge wooden beam scaffolding.
The road up to the temple is lined with souvenir shops and restaurants.
A day trip from Kyoto was a movie theme part, Toei Studios where they still film Japanese movies and TV shows.

We were given ninja training and we had to cross a bridge.
A ninja must balance well.
We had to go under the ropes without ringing the bells.

We had to sneek down the lane.
On the way, we posed in photo cutouts.
We watched people make a Samurai movie.
This place was around the corner from our Ryokan. 
It was so convenient and fun we are there twice. 
You grab a plate, and each color plate has a different price. This is hamachi.
I picked up ponzu sauce instead of soya sauce and the sushi chef scolded me!
Pickled eggplant nigiri
We tried to avoid McDonald’s while on our trip, but stopped once for dinner. They have a fried shrimp, ebi burger.
It was OK, but tasted quite a bit like a McChicken.
Comparing food prices between Japan and home, things seemed quite comporable. This was meals for three of us. 
It came to less than $20 Canadian, which is about the same as at home.
Then we continued exploring Shabuya.
